Page 2 of: Hiking Nevada City to South Lake Tahoe, by Thomas Becker
The drive from Nevada City to South Lake Tahoe is about 100 miles. As you can see, my hike was longer than that. My best guess is that I walked about 180 miles.

The first leg of the journey, going West from Nevada City, was really a rather uneven and not-very-straight combination of trails with some cross-country hiking and a few miles on dirt roads, taking about four days. The second leg was a straight three-day shot South on the Pacific Crest Trail. The third and final leg consisted of about half the Tahoe Rim Trail, from Tahoe City at the North-Western corner of the Lake to Kingsbury Grade at the South-Eastern corner.
